Corporate Overview

Nometics, Inc. is focused on cancer treatment. Using clinically established and approved nitric oxide (NO) donors, the Company's founding researchers demonstrated in both pre-clinical and clinical trials that tumour growth can be slowed in numerous types of cancer including prostate, non-small cell lung and colorectal. Through the establishment of a new class of therapy, Nometics Inc. expects to redefine the paradigm of cancer treatment.

The company's flagship product, NOVade™, is a transdermal formulation for treatment of cancer. It is the subject of use and formulation patents. A phase I/II trial conducted at Queen's University with prostate cancer patients demonstrated significant effects on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) doubling time (PSADT) in patients who, following primary therapy, had suffered 'biochemical failure' (rising PSA levels). Currently, these patients have unpalatable treatment options including 'watchful waiting' and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). ADT, aptly termed 'chemical castration', has substantial side effects that negatively impact patient quality of life while exposing them to additional medical risks (see table to the right). If validated in further clinical trials, NOVade™ can offer these patients renewed hope with no disruption to their quality of life.

NOVade™ addresses a huge unmet need in prostate cancer patients who have failed primary treatment. Prostate cancer is diagnosed in approximately 235,000 men per year in the United States and 20,700 in Canada. Of patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy and/or radiation treatment, it is estimated that 30-50% will experience 'biochemical failure'. NOVade™ is expected to offer these patients a new treatment option.
